Phys. Rev. E 58, R4092–R4095 (1998)Three-dimensional simulations of Ostwald ripening with elastic effects
The process of phase separation for quenched, three-dimensional binary alloy systems with coupled elastic fields was investigated with Langevin simulations. The elastic effects are the result of a dilational misfit introduced via inhomogeneities in the elastic constants of the system. A selection criterion for the shape and/or orientation of the domains, based on the different shear moduli, is presented. In addition, the coarsening behavior of the domains is discussed in terms of chemical potential barriers surrounding the precipitates. © 1998 The American Physical Society URL:
