We have characterized the topological organization of chaotic regimes of a modulated Nd:YAG (yttrium aluminum garnet) laser using template analysis. This investigation revealed a topological structure not previously observed in an experimental system nor in numerical simulations of models of this laser to our knowledge. This structure corresponds to the so-called reverse horseshoe theoretically described by Gilmore and McCallum [Phys. Rev. E 51, 935 (1995)].
