Phys. Rev. E 49, R990–R993 (1994)Anchoring transition in a nematic liquid crystal composed of centrosymmetric molecules
A temperature-driven anchoring transition strongly influenced by ionic impurities appears in a nematic liquid crystal composed of centrosymmetric molecules. Two anchoring parameters, the tilt angle and the anchoring strength, were measured. The observed phenomena are explained as a result of a balance between the orienting tendencies of electric double layers and direct molecular interactions at the interface. © 1994 The American Physical Society URL:
